The other day, my friend said something quietly over the phone.
He laughed, then paused and whispered—
“I just want to drink my cup of tea in peace.”
That’s it.
Not a spa day.
Not a trip to the hills.
Not even a full hour of silence.
This is a father of 2 children who just wanted ten uninterrupted minutes with his tea.
And I felt that in my bones.
He was working from home.
Meeting deadlines, answering emails, juggling calls — while simultaneously being a snack-maker, story-teller and playmate.
And in between, the guilt of not “doing enough” for his kids during summer.
He wasn’t asking for luxury.
He was asking for a boundary.
A small pocket of stillness in the middle of a chaotic Saturday.
But so often, when parents talk about needing a break, it’s brushed aside—
“Don’t be so dramatic.”
“Other people have it worse.”
“You should be grateful you get to be home with them.”
Yes, gratitude exists. But so does exhaustion.
And both are valid.
Here’s what I’ve learnt:
🫖 Recharge doesn’t have to be big. It can be your tea. Your shower. A 15-min walk.
🧠 Boundaries are love too. When you protect your peace, your kids learn how to protect theirs.
💛 Find small pockets, even if not perfect moments. A breather in the morning. A minute before bedtime. A few deep breaths before you enter a room.
Because summer isn’t a performance. It’s a season.
And even the sun needs shade to shine again.
To every parent silently craving space—
You’re not being selfish. You’re being human.
Take the tea. Take the time. Take what you need.
