The mother who finally asked for help.

The mother who finally asked for help.

She just moved back to India from the U.S.
New baby. New city. New chaos.
And not a clue who she could lean on.

Sharmila thought being a “good mother” meant doing it all herself.
When her first child was born, she wanted to manage everything—
The feeding. The sleepless nights. The laundry. The doctor’s visits. The mental load.

Her in-laws and parents offered help—gently, lovingly.
But she refused.
Not out of pride.
Out of fear.

Fear that asking for help meant she wasn’t strong enough.
Fear that it would shatter the self-image she was clinging to — of being capable, dependable, unshakeable.
She wanted to be seen as strong.
She wanted to prove she was strong.

But what no one saw was that she was breaking.
What she didn’t realise then was…
She was going through postpartum depression.

📸 She smiled in photos.
🚪 But cried behind closed doors.
✅ She checked off to-do lists.
💔 But couldn’t feel joy.

Her body was healing.
Her baby was growing.
But she was slowly disappearing into the background.

💬 “I didn’t know I was allowed to say — I’m not okay,” she told me.

And then came her second pregnancy.

This time, something shifted.
In our sessions, we explored the weight she was carrying.
And slowly, she started to release it.

She accepted her mother-in-law’s home-cooked meals.
She let her parents babysit for an evening.
She asked her husband to take the night shift sometimes.

This time, she let herself be held—so she could hold her sons better.

✨ “I didn’t become less of a mother,” she said.
“I became more of myself.”

We talk so much about parenting strength.
But not enough about the strength it takes to ask for help.

To all the mothers navigating this invisible weight—
You’re allowed to receive support.
You’re allowed to say it’s heavy.
You’re allowed to not have it all together.

💛 Strong doesn’t mean solo.
And motherhood was never meant to be a one-woman show.

💬 If you’ve walked this path—or are walking it right now—your story matters.
Let’s talk more openly about it. You never know who needs to hear it. ⬇
